Official Selection 3: YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU

No one wants to kick the bucket, so this cast of odd collectors and archivists have made plans to preserve a piece of themselves. Through a record collection, photo libraries, or a tattooed suit of flesh: their legacies will persist.

ROM | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17 | 4:30 PM; ROM | SATURDAY, JUNE 20 | 2:30 PM | 86 MINUTES

Time
One hundred years of history are compressed into just four minutes. Archival photos of Toronto landmarks are animated and sped up to show decades of transformation, destruction, and reconstruction in this blink-and-you'll-miss-it eye candy.

Danse Macabre
A still, lifeless body contorts in a final dance of death throes. The dead speak with spasms, twists and turns, recalling a life lived in flesh, and speculating on the afterlife. There is definitely vigour in this rigor mortis.

2) Secret Machine
The horror of the medical system, the body, and the passage of time are explored in this mesmerizing stop motion experiment. Time breaks the body down into its parts, which are prodded, tested and quantified in the hopes of understanding the esoteric.

The Way It Used to Be
An elderly woman arrives in heaven, only to discover she must choose between her first and second husbands as her eternal companion in the afterlife. A unique vision of paradise and its amusing romantic choices.

Good Advice (Goda råd)
Ten-year-old Rasmus feels ignored by his parents and decides to run away from home. He records a cassette tape chockfull of advice for his yet-to-be-born sibling on how to survive family life. Rasmus' funny and sweet impressions are a primer for all ages.

The Archive
Paul Mawhinney owns the world's largest vinyl record collection. Despite suffering from diabetes and encroaching blindness, an even more painful reality sets in. A potent portrait of burnt-out passion and public apathy, as the life's work of a collector passes into obscurity.

Photograph of Jesus
An archivist shares the most outlandish requests he's ever entertained - including photographic proof of Jesus! The impossible images are brought to life with amazing animated and kaleidoscopic effects to form a truly unruly and riotous image collection inspired by the inane.

Skin
A man with a gorgeous floral full body tattoo decides to donate his skin to an art gallery upon death. Tattoo artist, anatomist, curator, taxidermist, and undertaker, orchestrate their efforts to ensure the proper preservation and execution of this rare funeral rite.
